Why are there those that seem to not be very special with who they are or what they offer succeeding, while several amazing professionals we may know seem to still be desperately clinging to any scrap of success?
This is a phenomenon that is seen and experienced across all industries and personality types of professionals. This is a truly confusing and seemingly unfair situation we can find ourselves or other honest and loyal friends in. So if success is not unique to an industry or personality type, why are some making it while other seemingly deserving individuals not making the cut?
Glad you asked! It has been one of several subjects I have put a lot of time and research into mainly so I will not find myself included in it. Also, so that I can bring this valuable insight to my seminars given at companies that I enjoy using services or products from.
The answers to this phenomenon can be deceptively simple yet once laid out so few take it to heart. Most of these answers I have found by studying those making it happen. One reason success might be elusive to some is the simple truth that many of us are filling our time doing things that do not aid us in achieving our goals. Creating an environment that focuses on achieving goals that matter is one of the most powerful things you can do. “When you stop chasing the wrong things, you give the right things a chance to catch you”.
Another answer to this situation is in one word – Perseverance. So many people try nineteen times before giving up, while so few give that one extra ‘twentieth’ push for success. No one said it would be easy with odds like 1 – 100,000,000 or more to win the lottery we need to have a viable action plan for success and that requires work and perseverance.
No holding back! If you are just maintaining success will remain elusive. You have to put it all out there – ALL the time. Michael Jordan did not give his all to be great and then sit on the bench and reap the rewards of his hard efforts. No, he got up every morning and practiced what got him where he is. “Everybody has talent, but ability takes hard work.” Michael Jordan
Two more things you need to make sure you are doing if you truly want success first is education. Never stop learning. While some are dreaming about a future, successful people are doing something to make it happen. Prioritize time to learn all you possibly can about your industry, market, and clientele. If you are not learning on a regular basis and adding value to your services – success will remain right out of reach.
And finally, but by no means, the last thing you can do, surround yourself with people that are doing it! Professionals making it happen and still pushing themselves to be better. You all know this to be true and yet we still find ourselves giving precious time to others that will not help themselves. Think about the times in your life several of your ‘buddies’ said something like, “It will still be there tomorrow.”, “No one will know if you cheat on your diet just this once.”, “Give yourself a break it was probably not meant to be.” or “Why are you working so hard you are making the rest of us look bad…” Evil persuasion always rushes in to fill the void created by the absence of good influence. The only necessity for failure is for you to do nothing and that unfortunately, is what too many professionals with amazing potential do.
The time is now, no subterfuge, it will not be easy if it was (yes, you have heard this before too) everyone would be doing it! Success is there for the taking you just have to ask yourself, how badly do you want it and what are you willing to work hard at for it? ~K.Kirkland
